What Page Thinks!!! about The Peacocks...

Don't Ask...or maybe you should about The Peacocks.

The Peacocks are a band most people may not have heard of before, at least in the U.S., which is a shame, 'cause they are certainly one of the most hard-working and consistent acts to have emerged from the mid-nineties scene.

A trio from Switzerland, now made up of Hasu on guitar and vocals, his brother Simon on the double bass and solidifying the drums, Jurg. Going strong now for basically two decades, The Peacocks have evolved from playing covers, like most bands starting out do, to honing their craft and establishing a nice foothold in their genre.

Their genre, you ask? Well, since the days of true rockabilly has all but been extinct, they are an example of what it's morphed into. Two common sub-genres of rockabilly are, punkabilly and psychobilly. Punkabilly is obviously more of a punk/ska induced style as oppose to psychobilly, which at times is more horror laden in terms of both lyrical content and imagery.

Based on my rough summations of the genres, The Peacocks are to me more of the punkabilly variety. They have such a raw, nihilistic approach to their music, which at times borders on the ludicrous, but the FUN spirit and no apologetic nature for it, is to me what makes The Peacocks truly GREAT!

One of my all time favorite types of song is that of the "sarcastic-love-song", and The Peacocks' catalog is riddled with just that. Songs such as, "Not Your Man", "Love Song", "Love/Trouble", "Last Words", and "I Can Do A Lot For My Size", are just a few of my personal favorites.

Since their debut, Come With Us, to their most recent release, Don't Ask (which came out earlier this year), The Peacocks have gotten progressively better it seems with every effort. Although my favorite is still 2004's It's Time For...The Peacocks, you really can't go wrong with any of them. The first one I bought was It's Time For...The Peacocks, and I think that's a good place to start if you wanna give this band a shot.

Trust me, you are sure to enjoy it!

And that's what Page thinks today!
