My Appetite For Destruction

I've read all kinds of Rock Star books, but this one, is one of my favorites. However, this is just my take on it, NOT a review.

I have actually met Steven and can tell you that he is a doll in person. To me this is a story about a great person with a lot of passion and talent, who just wants to be liked and understood by everyone.

In this book Steven is honest about his faults, and tells you the reasons why some things happened so badly. He isn't afraid to share all of his ups and downs with us, which makes this book even more endearing.

Knowing he wanted to be a Rock Star at the age of 11, Steven followed his dreams and paid the price on many levels, knowing it would happened. Finally he found the guys that would help him get there, the guys that were going to be the biggest band in the world. Slash, Axl, Duff, Izzy, and Steven. Guns N Roses.

One of my favorite parts of this book is when Steven tells of when Duff got them a few gigs in Seattle. They made it to Bakersfield and their car broke down (story of my life...hahaha). But that didn't stop them. Steven grabbed his stick bag, the guys grabbed their axes, and they hit the road determined to get there. Hitchhiking up the whole west coast, missing two gigs, they made the BIG gig. I loved this part because it shows you where the band made a bond that would get them ready for more.

Vicky Hamilton, a familiar face on the music scene, always looking for new talent, took them under her wing and got them signed to Geffen Records on March 25th, 1986, leading them on their path to Rock Star Royalty.

Steven was with Guns N Roses from 1985-1990, living the Rock Star life.

Steven also tells us about his many health and financial issues. It's amazing he survived them, still maintaining his sweet personality.

In 2003 Steven still wasn't about to give up on his Rock Star dreams. Forming Adler's Appetite, with many talented musicians, they started touring everywhere. And as Steven says, "Never say never to a G-N-R reunion"...we can only hope!

In conclusion, I'm sure this was a hard book to write. The memories alone

have to be never ending for him. Plus, I was SO happy to see him being inducted into The Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame, seeing him back on stage with his Rock N Roll brothers...Well...His smile said it all!

*I give this book 4 horns of approval: \M/ \M/
