Halestorm...The New Queen Of Metal????

By The Rocker Twins

*original post date 2-09-13*

Are you going to be watching the Grammy's this year? Well, The Rocker Twins will be. Not usually one of our mandatory watches, but this year we'll be holding our breath to see who the winner for "Best Hard Rock/ Metal Performance" goes to. All of the nominees are VERY deserving of course, and are more than a talent, they're legends!  But there is a dark horse in this race of nominees, HALESTORM!

More often then not, we're handed a CD or sent an e-mail with someone telling us that "this" is the band to end all bands. So, one night when we were handed a CD with someone saying, "Listen to this chic, she's gonna be the new Queen of Metal!", we accepted it with a roll of our eyes and a quick "sure," not paying it any attention as we tossed it into the pile of self made demos, early releases that buddies leak out and send to us, and the endless treasures or trash that gets passed along the way. It was long forgotten, but being the rocker girls we are, one night we decided to go through the pile and see if we can find something NEW! Always in search of the new sound that will make you tingle, make the hair on the back of your neck stand up, we listen and wait. It doesn't happen often, but when it does it's a feeling you'll never forget. And that's when we found THEM, or better yet HER! Now we know it might sound strange (we guess) for "GROUPIES" to be talking about a female singer, BUT talk about her we are. We're talking about the BEST female vocalist we've heard since Pat Benatar told us that hell is for children, and Lita asked Ozzy what would happen if she closed her eyes forever?

The infamous HER we're speaking of is LZZY HALE. As children of old school metal and glam bands of the 80's, we haven't had someone we could call our OWN in forever!  But LZZY is what we have deemed THE REAL THING! With a growl and scream that rivals Mr. Sebastian Bach, she immediately hooks you with her lyrics. If you haven't heard HALESTORM, ummmmm what's wrong with you!? Having heard of this band since a week before their debut self titled release HALESTORM (April 2009), they always stuck in our minds. Friends would often go see them and say, "DUDE! They're awesome!" But still not knowing anything about them except for a 2am devouring of their CD, we kept an eye and ear out for them. Roadies and other bands we know would constantly tell us about the band and HER, but since we have heard so many endorsements before we thought, lets see how far they can take it.

Then SHE did it!  With the release of ReAniMAte: The Covers (March 2011), we didn't have to listen too long to be impressed, as the first track is Skid Row's Slave to the Grind!  At first we thought, no way!  No one can sing Sebastian Bach! Well she DID! Then following on, we look and did a double take on Track #5...What? She did not...Yep, our FAVORITE Heart song, "All I wanna do is make love to you." How do we NOT love them, is really the question here. Really, we haven't felt this way about a NEW artist/act in such a long time, that to tell you it renews our faith in rock n roll is putting it mildly. Loving the fact that they really are a FAMILY act has endeared them to us even more. Of course, her little brother is the GORGEOUS and talented drummer AreJay Hale, which watching him behind a kit is more than a toe curling experience, but we love that their dad was their bass player till the arrival of the equally yummy Josh Smith came along. And let us not forget about their delicious guitarist, Joe Hottinger!  As we follow their career, we find it more than wonderful, and in fact charming, that their dad is now their bus driver and their mom is their TM. Only a kid that grew up in a rock n' roll house would understand just how cool this is! Continuing to follow their career, we see how we're not the only ones who feel this way. With almost a unanimous respect of not only their peers, but legends of the ROCK WORLD, it's a joy to see all the artists that want to collaborate with LZZY. Watching You Tube clips of her with Sebastian Bach, her and Corey Taylor, her and... well hell, everyone who's anyone wants to work with her, and rightfully so!

But then we thought, second albums are always tough. The sophomore curse has hit more than its fair share of bands, and yes we love them, but like we said...lets see what they can do. However, when we finally heard the new release,The Strange Case Of...(April 2012), we were sold! If you weren't already a fan of theirs, you really should be by now. Starting off with the first track, "Love Bites (and so do I)", you hear just what a BAD ASS rock girl LZZY is. This track alone has given the band so much recognition it's hard to wonder what else will grab you from this release. We could go through this album track by track and tell you just how much we REALLY LOVE each and every song, but you should do yourself a favor and just buy it and love it for yourself.  There is, however, one treasure on this release that we, as GROUPIES, would be remiss if we didn't point out. Track #8 "ROCK SHOW!" The first verse alone will make you cry as you feel it in your groupie souls. As of now, we have deemed this OUR Groupie Anthem! "Little girl, you like it loud/ Come alive in the middle of the crowd/You wanna scream, you wanna shout/ Get so excited when the lights go down/AT THE ROCK SHOW!"

So in conclusion, with her voice, her look, and her writing abilities, The Rocker Twins have in fact deemed LZZY HALE our NEW Queen of METAL. Long live the Queen!
